Assistant City Engineer


The City of Germantown is currently seeking a qualified candidate for their Assistant City
Engineer position.

Under direction of the City Engineer, the Assistant City Engineer provides direct support in
managing the activities of the Engineering Department and its employees. The Assistant City
Engineer must possess a broad-based knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices as they
relate to municipal operations, field surveys, reviewing plans for completeness and compliance with
local, state and federal guidelines, capital improvement project management, coordination with other
governmental entities, construction management and inspection, and standard methods for analysis
and design of streets and municipal utilities . The Assistant City Engineer must have managerial,
communication and analytical abilities to independently complete work assignments and to provide continuity
of departmental operations in the City Engineer's absence. The Assistant City Engineer must perform the
detailed complex design of stormwater, utility and roadway projects; compiling and analyzing data for studies
and design issues; and computing quantities and preparing estimates for City capital projects. Supervise, train
and evaluate professional and technical staff in daily operations as assigned.

Education and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and current license as a Professional Engineer in the State of
Tennessee or the ability to receive within 3 months of hire date.
● 5-10 years of responsible civil engineering experience.
● Preference given to those with municipal government experience and those with at least 2 years of
experience in a supervisory capacity with design and management responsibilities.
