Director, Public Works


The city of Springfield is currently seeking a new director for the public works department.

The Public Works Department is vital to the success of the mission of the City of Springfield and contains three primary divisions: street maintenance, refuse collection, and vehicle maintenance. The director plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates all activities of the department and oversees department personnel. The position is also responsible for administrative function such as budgeting as well as preparing cost estimates for construction projects. The director works under the general supervision of the city manager. Bachelors’ degree from an accredited degree-granting, four year college or institution in management, public administration, business administration, construction trades, engineering, political science, or applicable area of study; prefer 10 + years of progressively responsible supervisory/management experience in street construction and maintenance, stormwater operation, drainage construction and maintenance, and management of employees – 5 of which were in a mid-level or higher decision-making position; or a combination of experience and training equivalent to the required knowledge and abilities.
