Engineering Director


The City of Brentwood seeks confident, strategic thinker and collaborative leader to join its team as the Engineering Director.

 The Engineering Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all department activities and resources. They oversee all administrative/technical functions of the Engineering Department staff to ensure all new land development/redevelopment activities meet City regulations.

Key Functions:

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates staff of Engineering Department.
  • Develops and implements operating budget for Engineering Department.
  • Works in collaboration with other departments in the development and execution of general policies and procedures for public works projects and infrastructure.
  • Provides staff support to the Municipal Planning Commission and coordinates reviews of all development/redevelopment proposals/plans for compliance.
  • Coordinates site inspections of private development projects for compliance with municipal regulations.
  • Coordinates inspections of public improvements within private development projects.
  • Management of $50+ million in City transportation projects through coordination of third-party design consultant and construction contracts.
  • Directs the implementation and management of the Stormwater Management Program to meet requirements of National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Phase II Federal program.
  • Develops City’s NPDES MS4 Phase II permit for submittal to State of Tennessee and oversees compliance.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field required, with six to ten years of municipal engineering experience through state, local government, or consultant experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Valid Tennessee licensure as a Professional Engineer or ability to obtain it within six months is required.
