Finance and Human Resources Director


The city of Lakeland is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Finance and Human Resources Director. This employee is responsible for a broad range of administrative and support services under the general supervision of the city manager. The Finance and Human Resources Director is primarily responsible for planning, organizing and directing the fiscal affairs including accounting, operational, capital budgeting, and financial reporting.

Duties include: serving as the general accountant and auditor of the city, ensure proper fiscal accounts, records, settlements and reports on all collections and expenditures of money and controlling and auditing the same. Ensure that adequate appropriations exist in budgeted line items, responsible for the reconciliation of bank statements to city cash and revenue and expenditure records, prepares statements and makes a variety of reports showing the financial operations of the city, responsible to manage the investment program, oversee preparation of the annual budget and capital budget for all funds, and assists the city manager and department heads.

Successful applicants will possess the proven ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, city officials, and other employees and the ability to prepare and present accurate reports to the governing body; five to seven years of progressively responsible managerial positions in accounting, finance and human resource management required. Similar experience in the public sector is preferred. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field is required.
