The Town of Cumberland Gap is seeking qualified applicants for a Building Inspector position on an As-Needed Basis.
Compensation: $ 30.00 per hour
Primary Responsibilities:
- Inspect residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with the 2021 International Building Codes (IBC/IRC) and Town Codes.
- Review building construction, structural, mechanical, and plumbing regulations.
- Foster positive, professional relationships with contractors, property owners, and the general public.
- Issue violation notices, stop-work orders, and construction permits as necessary.
Requirements:
- Certification: Current and valid Tennessee Building Inspector certification is preferred; however, the Town will consider applicants who can obtain the required certification within one year of employment.
- Legal: Ability to be bonded and certified by the Tennessee State Fire Marshal.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 years of demonstrated experience in building construction or inspections.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Physical Demands: As this is an inspection role, candidates must be able to work in all weather conditions and navigate active construction sites. This includes the ability to climb ladders, enter crawlspaces, stand for extended periods, and maintain the visual acuity necessary to detect small defects or structural issues.
