Anthony Haynes is the Executive Director of the Tennessee Municipal League (TML), bringing more than 30 years of experience at the intersection of government, politics, and public sector management.
Since joining TML in 2020, Haynes has led efforts in advocacy, education, and statewide municipal networking. He has focused on positioning the organization for long-term success, modernizing its board structure and bylaws, and launching TML’s first visioning report to guide strategic planning and reinforce mission alignment.
Haynes oversees daily operations, budgeting, and asset management, including stewardship of TML’s historic downtown Nashville office building. He leads a dedicated staff and takes pride in creating a collaborative, supportive workplace culture that enables every team member to excel in their job.
Additionally, Haynes serves as secretary and treasurer of the TML Board of Directors and is the municipal employee representative for the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System Board of Trustees.
A native of Trenton, Tenn., Haynes earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Tennessee Martin and a master’s degree in public administration from Memphis State University. He has completed advanced professional development through Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education and Kennedy School of Government, as well as the Institute of Public Utilities at Michigan State University.
