Senior Director of Communications
The Tennessee Municipal League (TML) is searching for an experienced communications professional to provide leadership and manage its organizational internal and external communications program. Located in downtown Nashville, TML has served as the voice of Tennessee’s 345 towns and cities since 1940.
Position Overview
The Senior Director will play a critical role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of TML. Responsibilities include developing and implementing communication strategies, managing marketing campaigns, and promoting the TML’s activities, events, and initiatives. The Senior Director will be a creative thinker with excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of digital marketing trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Communication Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans to effectively convey TML’s mission, values, and key messages to various stakeholders, including members, affiliated partners, media, and the public.
- Content Creation: Produce and oversee high-quality, engaging content for a variety of platforms, including newsletters, press releases, social media, websites, and marketing materials. Ensure all content is consistent with TML’s brand and vision.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists. Proactively identify media opportunities and coordinate media inquiries that impact TML’s visibility and credibility.
- Social Media Management: Oversee the development and implementation of social media strategies to increase engagement, grow the association's online presence, and drive traffic to the association's website.
- Event Promotion: Collaborate with event organizers in the creation and execution of marketing plans for association events, including conferences, webinars, and workshops. Identify channels that assist in promotion of event attendance and participation.
- Marketing Campaigns: Lead the development and execution of marketing campaigns that promote TML’s programs, services, and initiatives. Track and analyze the effectiveness of campaigns.
- Brand Management: Ensure consistent application of TML’s brand across all communication and marketing materials.
- Market Research: Conduct research to understand industry trends, member needs, and competitive landscape. Use insights to inform communication and marketing strategies.
- Communications Effectiveness: Monitor and evaluate the performance of TML communication and marketing. Provide regular reports to senior management and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in communication and marketing roles, preferably with an association or governmental entity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Proven experience in media relations and developing relationships with journalists.
- Creative thinker with the ability to generate innovative ideas and solutions.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage a team, multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of digital marketing, including social media, email marketing, and content marketing.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Ability to drive the association's mission and advance the interests of local governments to various audiences.
The Position
- Full-time, based at the TML headquarters in Nashville, TN.
- Occasional travel may be required for events and meetings.
- Compensation: $130,000 – 150,000 annually, depending on experience. Full health and retirement, as well as other benefits.
